The Jigawa State Polytechnic for Information and Communication Technology, Kazaure was established in the year 2000 as Informatics Institute under a franchise agreement with Informatics Education Ltd. (then called Informatics Holdings Ltd) Singapore, to focus on delivering world-class quality training in the area of Information and Communication Technology to the citizens of Jigawa State in particular and Nigeria in general
From inception, the Institute started Diploma in Information Technology (DIT) from 2002 to 2004 after which the franchisor (Informatics, Singapore) changed the programme to International Diploma in Computing and International Advanced Diploma in Computing IDIC and IADIC. On-line degree from University of Wales & Portsmouth and other professional courses were introduced in 2007.

A Cable Technology Programme (C-TECH) was introduced under another franchise agreement with C-Tech Associates New Jersey, USA late 2006. The programme offers professional training for communication personnel in Copper, Fiber Optic Cablings and Integrated Voice and Messaging. From inception in 2006 to date, the C-Tech unit has produced potential candidates and employees for GSM Companies in Nigeria.
In November 2007 a committee was set up to review the status of the Institute so as to place it at par with similar tertiary institutions in Nigeria. Consequently, a law formally establishing the Institute was enacted as law number 10, of 2008, a Governing Council was inaugurated on Monday 12th November, 2008 and a proper management structure put in place with appointment of a Rector, Registrar and some Directors, while other principal officers were appointed in 2010.

In 2008, the Jigawa State Government launched an overseas scholarship programme to identify and grant promising Nigerians of Jigawa State origin opportunity in their academic pursuits to complete up to the Bachelor of Science degree in computing in Singapore. More than 156 students benefited from that programme.

By 2010/2011 academic session, the Institute secured an interim accreditation from the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) to mount National Diploma (ND) in Computer Science. The ND programme was started in October 2010. The NBTE has visited the Institute in July this year for full accreditation of the programme the result of which is awaited. We are optimistic the result shall be positive.

The National Diploma programme runs concurrently with Informatics International Diploma and International Advanced Diploma programmes as well as other Certificate Programmes.
OBJECTIVES OF THE INSTITUTE
The objectives of the Institute are:
i. To provide quality education, training and development techniques for Information and Communication Technology (ICT), as well as other spheres of learning, and to do so for the purpose of its functions as an institute, so far as its resources permit or as the Governing Council may from time to time determine

ii. To provide world-class manpower training in the various fields of ICT with a view to providing the much needed human resources.

iii. To produce highly skilled individuals that will provide a critical mass of manpower in ICT with a view to providing a means of income generation for the state in particular and the nation in general and empower individual families and communities, the multiplier effect of which shall propel the economy of the state and the nation to the extent of making it an active partner in the new global economic order.

iv. To provide courses of in-service instruction/training for members of the public service and to the extent that the Council deems proper, courses of the like nature for persons unconnected with any of the public service.

v. To promote through teaching, research and other means, the advancement of knowledge and its practical application to the needs of the community.

vi. To award Certificates, National Diploma and Higher National Diploma relating to such fields of learning to students who qualify for such awards.
